“Bullying” is aggression, harassment, threats or intimidation when one person has greater status, control, power than the other.”  Warning Signs a child is being bullyed:

 

  • Unexplainable injuries

  • Lost or destroyed clothing, books, electronics

  • Frequent headaches, stomach aches

  • Sudden loss of friends

  • Changes in eating habits

  • Difficulty sleeping or frequent nightmares

  • Declining grades

  • Self-destructive behaviors such as running away from home, harming themselves, or talking about suicide

 

Common characteristics of children who are bullied:

 

  • Perceived as different from peers

  • Perceived as weak or unable to defend themselves

  • Are less popular than others

  • Do not get along well with others

  • Specific groups of children may be targets, including obese or overweight, LGBT youth and children with disabilities or special health needs

 

Cyber-Bullying with electronic means such as computers, cell phones, social media is at an all-time high.  Examples include spreading rumors and posting embarrassing images or information on the internet, text messages and social media.
